Pride

Pride has come and gone in Seattle. M. went to the parade and rally. I worked.

Every year we have the big Pride debate. It's stupid. What the fuck are we proud of anyway? Isn't being 'proud' a little on the defensive? Who wants to see a bunch of bars who managed to decorate a flatbed truck with crepe paper and found some half naked guys to dance to music blasting out of an ancient boom box?

Every year we go anyway. Sometimes we actually plan. Most years we wake up that morning and decide at the last minute to rush off to the parade because it's about to start. This happens so often it's become tradition to bitch about Pride then head to the parade and rally Sunday morning.

It's been ten years of Pride for us and things really have changed.

  • We have corporate sponsers now.
  • There are less bars.
  • There are less drag queens.
  • There are more families - synchronized strollers
  • And it's all about marriage - brides EVERYWHERE because most people don't want to be a groom.

I can't wait to have a family to take to Pride. No matter how much I bitch - and I promise that I bitch A LOT - it's always a very fun, happy and joyful event for us.
