The Breast Beast

We bought our breast pump today. Wanted to take advantage of the Babies 'r' Us 15% coupon for Avent products. Yikes. That mutha is HEAVY. I can't believe I'm going to have to haul it back and forth to work and remember the damn gel packs.

LB liked it. He kicked. I told him that he has no idea the wonders in store for him. That's assuming that my breasts are even partially all that and a bag of chips.

My favorite part was the porny boobs on the side of the box that showed a woman pumping. I wish I could find a pic of them online.

We also got a Babies 'r' Us free sunshade, which I really didn't want. I strongly hinted to M. that perhaps we should turn down the sunshade when the checker girl piped up and said:

Hey, it's free!

I looked at her and explained that it was not free if I am forced to advertise for her company. M. then proceeded to rush me quickly out of the store.

Anyway, our shower is this Sunday and we're going to wait to break into the Breast Beast until after JUST IN CASE someone gives us a horridly expensive breast pump as a gift. Probably not.

I'm still doing a terrible job with my bedrest, considering that we were at Ikea all day getting odds and ends for the nursery, etc....

My public service announcement on breast pumps. Did you check into your insurance to see if they'd cover it? Dora's did. She just got a script from her OB after Arden was born (we left the hosp with the script). Then we called up a company and they delivered it the next day. Free. The super nice medela one.

Just a thought!

Another thought on the pump...the Avent may not work for you if you have an ample-sized chest. Check to see if Avent makes larger sized horns that you can order/purchase. I know Medela and Ameda make them for their pumps.
I have heard great things about the Avent pump you bought though. :o)

(long time lurker and occasional pumper for my 6 week old)

Dude, don't lug that huge thing to and from work. Leave it at work and sterilize the parts in the microwave. Medela makes excellent reusable baggies that fit any microwave, even mini ones.

The gel packs, yes, you will have to remember. But the only thing that needs to go to-and-from is the actual bottles in a small container.

And... yay for 35 weeks! Maybe the fact that you don't FEEl ready now will mean that you don't go all psychotic postpartum like I did :-)

Wow! I am responding in part (and lol) to Erin's comment - what a way to find out they returned our shower gift (we had bought them the breast pump on their registry)! My spouse bought it and told Dora to think of her every day when she attached it. The world is very small!

I am soo excited for the two of you! Forget being prepared because nothing you can buy will prepare you for the upcoming experience! Yeah for the 35 weeks.

Just a suggestion - don't open your breast pump until you need to use it. I've known a couple moms who have opened it right away (trust me I have mine here and I want to open it too!) but ended up needing a hospital grade pump for one reason or another (you just never know!) and after you open the pump you can't return it. Things do happen and it would really suck not to be able to return such an expensive item. Just wanted to pass on the info.

Btw let me know how you like the Avent. I hemmed and hawed and ended up getting the Medela after a lot of researching and thinking. But the Avent was also on my list.

I won't post my bra size for the entire internet to see... but uhm let's just say you ought not be too worried about ample boobage and the avent. I've not had issues.

And I read one woman who did - she just took out the petal-thingies and it was enough extra room to fit them in.

But... yeah, don't open it til you are sure.

EMILIE IS THAT YOU??

Dora used that one too!! She used a combo of the two! OMG small world, LOL.

Rest assured, your gift got MUCH use, it was less harsh on the boobs that the electric one.

It's me! Hey Erin! We certainly didn't care whether you had used it or returned it as the gift was freely given - but what a small world it is!
