He Called

Ok, I think everything is ok. He called with the info we needed to move forward. He said he just forgot. As hard as that is for me to believe, I guess he's just not wound up about this as tightly as we are.

Trying to not be so paranoid now.

Now we all start working on a list of related duties:
  • semen analysis
  • health history questionnaire
  • general health checkups
  • std testing
  • appt with lawyer
  • whew!
Hopefully we can get this all done before the week of January 16 when we hope to have our first insemination!

It's a lot, but if you don't have time to do all, you can focus on the essentials - std/hiv checks and lawyer. We are using a known donor (I am ginger_blue from ff) and we haven't bothered to get a semen analysis. If things aren't working after a few months, we'll probably pursue it.

About the donor, we had the same experience of feeling like he didn't take it seriously, didn't care as much, etc. Then the three of us sat down and talked it through and it turned out he just needed time to process the information. He didn't get a lot of support from the gay men's community about wanting to be a donor and unlike us he isn't surrounded by queer people with babies. So it took him a while to figure it all out. We worried that he would be unreliable again but since we hashed it out, he has been great. All I need to do is call him, and we can jump straight in the car to drive downtown and get the 'goods'. ;-)
