HELP!!!!

A couple things M. and I need help from the mysterious world of the internets. Maybe we have a babycakes reader who can give us some ideas...

#1. Bottles

We use the Second Nature nipples. They work with the Second Nature bottles (duh) and the Avent bottles (which we use). Both these bottles are made of the bad plastic and we would like to switch. We need a BPA-free wide mouth bottle that will work with the Second Nature nipple.

We've tried Born Free and they leak. We tried the Avent Tempo and they leak. We're considering the Sassy Mam but they have to be ordered off the internets and they will most likely LEAK.

We don't want to switch nips. This one works well for Finn. M. likes the way he can control the flow.

Any ideas? Anyone?

#2. Music

If we sing Old MacDonald Had a Farm one more time I think M. and I may shoot ourselves. We need MUSIC. Good music that we can sing to Finn. I'd love some suggestions that aren't Baby Einstein. Baby Einstein could have the same effect of gun to head if used more than once every couple months.

Thank you dear readers, purusers of the grand internets, people who have wonderful ideas. M. says I'm utterly, totally, strangely WEIRD. I say you should see me around any form of CAKE.

i'm also a raffi fan, but in terms of songs that you don't mind having stuck in your head i would recommend elizabeth mitchell. she and lisa loeb also put out a cd, catch the moon, that i love. even my husband puts it on, and he hates children's music!

I don't know much about bottles, but I know that the Medela ones don't have that stuff in them. How would you feel about storing your milk in the Medela ones (not sure if you use that kind of pump or not) and then just tipping it into the other bottles at the last minute? That would offer very limited contact time.

I think this is one of the sweatest baby CDs of all time. Very sing-a-long-able and doesn't sound like the baby drone of some of the other CDs.

We love Elizabeth Mitchell, too- my four BEG for me to put her cd, You Are My Little Bird, every morning and as soon as we get home at night. It's definitely music I don't hearing over and over again, myself.

Dan Zanes and Friends. My 5-year-old still adores him. Very parent friendly.

Laurie Berkner is good, also. My twin girls love her.

As for bottles, the nipples for the Tempo are different than the regular Avent bottles. This may be why they leaked. The regular Avent nipples have a ridge to vent, whereas the Tempo nipple is flat.

Good luck.

The Born Free also leak with the regular Avent nipples. We got tired of getting wet so we have switched completely and Riley cannot tell the difference.

We put her on the stage 3 nipple but we also have some variable
flow nipples. We have packed those up now cause we find it hard to see what setting it`s on when and if we have to do a night feeding.

So I`ve ordered all stage 3 nipples and will keep the variable flow nipples for the next baby.

We've always just played regular music for our son. He is a big fan of Beatles songs (Abbey Road is pretty good for kids) and Built to Spill. I say let him listen to whatever you like. If you need a good lullaby CD though, someone gave us a Putumayo Kids album (Asian Dreamland) and it works miracles on a cranky baby.

Jim Gill! Jim Gill!
Fabulous music for kids... and entertaining for adults as well. We've been listening to the same THREE albums for two years now.... still love them, not sick of them yet!

Again, RAFFI. I have heard MANY good things! We're not even pregnant yet, but we are looking up lots of important stuff way in advance! Anyway, check out RAFFI - "Singable Songs for the Very Young". Good luck guys :)

My husband prefers that we store the milk in glass (I have the Medela and can pump right into Evenflo glass bottles found very cheaply on Amazon.com) but we also use the Playtex Drop-ins system, which is BPA-free and fairly wide-mouthed (and also offers the dreamy One-Step system for pumping) but I have no info if the Second Nature nipple will fit in them. I suppose you could always give it a test drive at Target.

We also pretty much have skipped the kiddie tunes for now and gone right into DH's vinyl stash of Perez Prado, Tito Rodriguez, and Fania All-Stars. They're not really sing-worthy though. Oh, wait, we have found ourselves singing the Caillou theme song to him, though I'm positive that's not what you were looking for. =D Good luck!

Thanks everyone...we have some great ideas for music!

As for the bottle dilema, it's looking like we're going to have to switch nipples. M. is going to try to Born Free nipples today and we're also going to try to Adiri Natural Nurser. We may still try the Sassy Mam as well. Ugh. It's crazy making.

I second (or third, or whatever) Elizabeth Mitchel - you can listen on her website (http://youaremyflower.org/home.html)and pull lyrics from there, too. The children at my school love to sing her songs.
In my class, we don't sing Old MacDonald, because it makes me crazy. Our animal sounds song is "The Barnyard Song" which is much cuter. I think you can google the lyrics, or I can send them (and *lots* of others) to you.
Hmm... I think this might be me de-lurking....

Defintely get a Raffi CD. Especially "Singable Songs for the Very Young". Erik loves it when we sing almost any song from that CD. Also, Sesame Street. Erik likes to listen to the kids singing. He stops whatever he's doing when he hears the Sesame Street theme. He's never seen the show but he loves the music.

You could also check out Justin Roberts, Ralph's World, Free to be You and Me... We also LOVE Beethoven's Wig, which I think you can get from amazon. We also get into an opera mood when it rains and so have "The World's Very Best Opera for Kids... in English" which can be fun.
I have to say, I disagree completely with the Raffi reccomendations, I can't stand Raffi! Blech! Oh, if you like showtunes you could check out Broadway Kids, they can be a bit... sugary sweet at times, but not too bad.

Have I got a music suggestion for you... They Might Be Giants! We have Bed Bed Bed, a nighttime book with a cd. It's completely silly and WILL, I repeat WILL get lodged in your head. But so will BINGO, so just go with it.

I'm not a big fan of kid music, at ALL. Do you just have some suitable adult music you can play? I'll play just about anything on my iPod for Edie except I draw the line at the Snoop Dogg my sister put on there as a joke and I never use iTunes so I don't know how to get it off of there!

good luck with the bottles--as Angele said, we found that Avent nipples leaked with BornFree as well. We just went ahead and switched all of the nipples. Much better.

As for music, good luck. I love my Sharon, Lois & Bram. I find the music fun and not annoying. I also grew up on it so it's totally a walk down memory lane. I will send you some to see if you like it. I think Raffi is okay. I find the Fisher Price album "Silly Songs" a bit annoying but I can toon it out.
