Croup de Loop

Sorry I've been bad about blogging lately. I'm a bit down with the weather change. I'm tired because I'm starting to take on some overtime to keep our little family afloat. I have a cold. It all feels a bit crappy right now. There's the rub.

Anyhoo...

Our beautiful boy has turned into a vomit-spewing, barking little seal with diarrhea. It started last night with the barking cough. Then today after we all went out for breakfast his delish ginger pancake came right back up. The bad thing is that it went ALL OVER the car seat. The good thing...we get our convertible car seat tomorrow so we have to suffer with the nasty, stinky bucket just one more day. After the vomit came the diarrhea. I knew when I heard the gurgle that it was going to be bad. Finn hasn't gurlgled when he poops for months now. It was pretty much on all surfaces of his body except his face.

Finn smiled through all the vomiting and diarrhea and snot and coughing, because he was telling us that he was still therer.

He had a bath. We started the humidifer. He had some boob and didn't vomit. Now he's sleeping and I think I'm going to cancel the appointment at the after hours clinic. We'll just get him through the night and see how he's feeling tomorrow.

The best part...I was instructed by the ER triage nurse on the phone last night that we would HAVE to sleep with him overnight. Oh, the hardship considering that we all sleep together anyway.

Awww..poor baby! Hope he's better soon and that this is a short-lived little bug.
I am curious...what car seat do you use that you are already switching to a convertible? We just bought ours today and I'm wondering if it will last as long as I hope it will. And why, if I may ask, are you switching to a convertible. Is it forward-facing?

We bought the infant care seat Britax Companion - a bucket. It's been a mostly good car seat.

I don't think we're early switching out of the bucket. Actually it feels late because Finn's feet are hanging out of it and he's almost to the top, even though he hasn't hit the max on the seat.

Besides Finn simply outgrowing the Companion, he seriously HATES the car seat. He fights and fights when we put him in it and is incredibly unhappy. We went and tested out the convertible (we're getting the Britax Roundabout) and getting him in and out was such a breeze. It's more of a chair than a bucket so he's a bit more upright.

We'll still keep him rear facing, until at least a year, probably longer. Because of our small car, we will be putting it on the passenger side, which will let Finn look out the window. He should like that.

On top of everything we have this really cool carseat cover I won from Cool Mom Picks and I can't wait to use it. Especially after our vomit experience today. The bucket is going to be a PAIN to clean.

I hope Finn feels better soon!!!

To add to the response to JT - We had a companion. We moved H up around 9 months. Legs hanging isn't a px, but where the head is can be!!! The seats, all of them, get heavy! The kid gets ancy. And our kid was tall.

The time when one gets the MOST safety benefit from a bucket 0-6mos. After that they don't need as much recline, etc etc.

And, H is still rear-facing in her Boulevard. She LOVES seeing out and she rarely fights going in the carseat (and can be easily bribed with toys!!!).

(my verification word is: irulyz - and I think i *do* rules! ;-))

Head height is definately the most important. They should always have about 5cm room above their head to the top of the seat otherwise it doesn't give adequate protection. That's what our car seat advisor told us.Good luck with the new seat!!

i heard rubbing the soles of their feet with vicks vaporub putting socks on and letting them sleep with it is some unlikely but effective cough helper. if you try it let us know if it works... apparently works on kids and adults.

So sorry to hear that Finn's been sick. I hope he's feeling better soon!!!

Riley also hated her other car seat and loves the convertible one. We switched really early on and are happy we did.
