Teething Hell

Excuse my language, but I FUCKING HATE TEETHING.

This is so much worse than the shots. The shots ended. This never ends. We had a mostly good morning then Finn became the fountain of drool and 15 minutes later the inconsolable wailing started. He just looked at me with his little face turning bright red and yelled.

We did it all. Breastsicle, Hyland teething tablets, clove oil, rocking, nursing and again finally resorted to Tylenol.

20 minutes later he was finally able to calm down and stopped crying.

Ever since the teething started, Finn has also become hard to keep asleep. He jerks awake easily which is unusual for him. So we put him into his crib once he was able to sleep, and of course he woke when I set him down and decided that he mobile was interesting because he felt better.

Argh.

When those stupid little teeth finally come in, M. and I are having a fucking party. I hate, hate, HATE this.

Oh you poor things suffering through this :-( Now I'm dreading it too since you're my "test pilot" for everything! I haven't tried it myself, but we're having pretty good success with the Brauers Colic Relief formula which is homeopathic so it's very safe. They make a teething product too that I've heard people rave about. Not sure whether they have it ovver there though! I had never used homeopathic stuff before and was a bit cynical about the whole thing till we got such good results with the one we're using. Good luck guys!

Seth may not follow Finn on teething so early. Finner is on the early end of normal so hope and pray Seth gives it a bit more time. It's possible. And babies vary widely in s/sx, so maybe he'll be an easy kidlet and those teeth will just pop in.

It NEVER ends...Kate at 17 months has 12 teeth (including a full set of molars) and is now working on the bottom canines. She too is cranky and sleeping poorly, needs to be right next to or on top of us and jerks awake quite a lot. The hyland teething tablets help some but i have to say i SWEAR by tylenol.

Hang in there...maybe he'll get all of his in early and you'll get a break before the molars come.

We still don't see teeth in Riley's mouth yet. She has some bad days but most of the time, she's okay. I don't know why they bother her more on some days than others.

Tylonel is our friend. Teething rings seem to help a little but if she is going through A LOT of pain then Tylonel it is. You gotta do what you gotta do.

I hate to give my son medicine but tylenol is the only thing that has helped with teething. He is the same as Finn -- completely fine about 20 minutes after I give him some.

Try very very very cold carrots. Don't use the baby carrots because it could be a choking hazard - but they are great chewing for little teethers and hard enough to be satisfying!

The carrot tip is a good one but you do have to watch them very carefully to check they don't manage to break bits off -it's amazing how their gums can be so strong.Like Amy said they need to be really cold, that soothes too. I always found medication was the best soother, but it's a hard one as often teething can last for ages (sorry not what you want to hear at the moment!!). I remember thinking we'd get the teeth any day and it was a few months before they eventually broke through. I think they move below the gums and that's the painfull bit - the actual breaking through never seems to bother as much. Can you see anything? You usually see a sort of translucent bump followed by a thin white line. It's a traumatic time but also very exciting as you see their first tooth break through. Hope Finn's comes soon!!!

Yes, we can see the teeth in his lower gums. And I've also heard frozen bagels work, and they prob have less of a chance of breaking off.

I feel for you! Nicholas is still teething and he's working on #7 right now. Hylands tablets work for us. When he was little, I used to massage his gums with my clean finger. Maybe a baby finger toothbrush would feel good on his gums. I didn't buy mine until 6-7 months, but Jason Organics sells one with toothpaste (non-fluoride), but I just use with water. HTH.

oh lord, Julia would wait to teethe until we went on a trip. I swear EVERY time we took her on a trip she would start running a fever and be cranky and not normal and then, POOP out would come teeth. You remember... she cut 3 teeth on our trip to Oregon where we met you... teething is hell.

We use an amber teething necklace. Now, maybe our little guy is just a great teether, or maybe the necklace works, but either way, I'm not taking it off of him.

Search eBay, you will get some more information.

tylenol AT bedtime....

MIRACLE worker, I tell ya - skip the popsicles, the washcloths, hylands, everyting - just give the kid tylenol. he'll thank you for it later.

Yeah, it's all about Tylenol. We do all the other stuff to keep going through the day, which seems to keep him a lot less cranky, then when the screaming starts, TYLENOL.

Here's the really, really strange thing...right when the teething started up, Finn started sleeping about 9-10 hours a night. Can't quite figure that one out but we are seriously not arguing.

Trista Julia was an angel while teething, FYI. We loved meeting her, even cranky.

I just ran across your blog, but I fully feel your pain. My 6 month old baby is teething now and it is absolute hell. She has always been a easy going calm baby. Now she drools all the time and goes into crying fits. I can't stand it. I think teething babies could be used as torture devices. I can't wait til this is over. I am going insane.
