Boy Moms and Blood Pressure

If I look back at how my GUT has been feeling, I knew we were going to have a boy. A girl always felt like such a remote possibility but I wanted to hang onto it as long as possible. It's not that I would be devestated about having a boy. It's just that I'm a girl, M. is a girl, and we UNDERSTAND girl things (or at least we think we do). Without any prior experience, a girl just seems simpler.

We're going to be boy moms. I'm already working on adjusting. No amazing dollhouses. Trucks. Cars. Planes. Boy things.

The ultrasound was really funny. They did the shot of the bottom to check his little legs and I saw it just hanging out there...THE PENIS. No question, he's a boy.

The good things: boys love their moms; there are pretty much ZERO boy clothes we really want to buy (they all seem to have either a sports theme or a dog on them); we've eliminated half our potential names; our stroller is very BOY; things just seem a little easier when we think about boy things.

The strange: both M. and I come from families where the oldest children are girls. We're going to have an oldest boy; saying 'he' instead of 'it'.

The unbearable: my dad and brother are going to be freakin' annoying and will want to tattoo him. Uh huh.

Answers to questions...no, we didn't get a video. Yes we have names picked out but no, we're not sharing. M. and I need to keep some things to ourselves.

Blood Pressure

I had my appointment at the hypertension clinic yesterday. Once again my BP was in the 140's over 80's. Except for after the appointment when I was waiting to talk to the doc, I measured 118/69. WTF???

Anyhoo, I'm on a vasodilator. Compazine. We should know in a week if it's working. The most important thing is to keep the little man inside as long as possible.

Boys are great. You'll adjust. I mean, when my brother was born we had no clue about boy things but we learned. And he was a great baby and he's such a mama's boy. :) I agree, the selection of boys clothes seems to be limited a lot of the time. I mean, what's with the bugs and dinosaurs? But there are cute things out there and I'm sure you'll get into shopping mode for your son soon enough. :)

I hear you on the boy clothes. As an artist with a musician/writer husband, sports themed clothes just aren't our bag. If you look around online there are some really funky and cute clothes for boys that aren't so cliche.

You never know... he may be into dollhouses.

To get the cute boy clothes, you really need to look online. And check out Zutano and Oink baby, and Naartje. They're out there. And think how much your boy will stand out from the masses in his funky clothes!

You know I can completely relate. I was in the least bit dissapointed when we found out we were having a girl it was just a little sense of loss at the idea of having a boy. I guess you can say I wanted both, I would have been happy with either. You are right boys are easier, because as soon as I found it was a girl this rush of OMG we are having a girl, where can I buy a chastity belt, should I start locking her up now OMG we must protect her. All these things come rushing on me with all the fears and worries a boy brings. I have been told that boys are easier and from what i can see they seem like it. Girls really have the grip on the dramatics. Mothers and daughters sometiems clash that is what I worry about. But I am sure all will work out for you guys as it will for us. Trust I know what you are going through though. Best of luck to you guys and think nice happy thoughts.

Ok please allow me to apologize for my previous message I apparently have lost my mind and have gone pregnancy clumpsy when it comes to typing. I hope you get the gist of what i was trying to say :).

um....why is it that your boy can't have a dollhouse? I'm trying to decide which doll baby to buy for my boy child....and for his first Christmas I'm buying him a toy kitchen.

You are right that boy clothes are super uninteresting. European designers tend to be better....but who can afford those??

Yeah, i was just going to say that too--your boy can CERTAINLY have a dollhouse; he may even LIKE it!

I have found that before i see a doc, my BP can be as high as 140/90 (very high, for me) then after be down to my normal (100/60). That makes total sense.

Good luck w/the compazine and the decorating and shopping and everything. I'm so excited for you guys! (um...gals)

PS i've always felt that mother-daughter relationships are somehow more troubled than mother-son ones. I thought we'd get a boy, too...but we're getting a girl so we'll see!

It was hard for me to envision mothering a son when I was pregnant with Henry (1st son). When they are inside you, you still feel and relate to your female self...but we have inner males in us to I believe. I get to entertain all the "boy" things I never experienced growing up and you really do have the ability to relate as they grow into boys and men.

Just remember, always make sure to point it down when diapering ;-) I don't think anyone's ever really ready for getting out of their comfort zone. I know I wasn't when I was pregnant with #2 and had thoughts he could've been a boy (and then was!!) since my oldest is a girl. Clothes--yep, not a lot of selection, but if you search around good ones can be found. And personally I know one of my son's most favorite things is his kitchen & his little people doll house, so hey, you never know ;-) And believe me, he's ALL boy too!!! CONGRATS again though!!!!

Yay! Boys are great. And you get to the point where you prefer the boys clothes. Also, LM likes trucks, dollhouses, cooking, skateboards, and his favorite color is pink. You NEVER know what you are gonna get, boy or girl.

Papi Bello, like some of the little boys mentioned above, likes his dollies & their bottles & strollers, his toy kitchen, and twirling around doing "ballet".

He also loves firetrucks, blocks, turning even the most innocuous household object into a weapon (much to my dismay), rough-housing, and kicking a soccer ball around. His last Lego project was building a "baby" and a "baby blanket."

I have written about raising a boy here:

I don't know about the boys getting along better with their moms than girls. I got along with my mom better than my dad. We have always been really close. My brother is a mama's boy for sure and my sister is more dramatic but you just never know. :)

Tattoo? Your dad?? I remember when he wouldn't let you get your ears pierced because it's "barbaric"!! That's funny!

For really fun, cute and interesting boy clothes look at Zutano. They are 100% cotton and have great prints.

I am having my third boy, we have one dd too, and I am thrilled. Girls are lovely and I love mine. Boys are just plain fun! Airplanes and Thomas the Tank engine. My sons have given me a unique look at the worls I never would have had with just daughters:)

I know you moms will have an amazing time with the unnamed one:)
