Survey says...

Wow, I get to post our 100th post on this day that hopefully will be our contract signing. Having it all done by days end would be cause for celebration indeed!

Now, I need your help. We've been fine tuning our insemination plans and can't decide if/when Sacha should O. Some say right before the insemination but I fear that could increase the chance of a boy and we already think we have enough chance on that side. Some say after the insemination, but we're worried about driving the stuff right out of there.

What worked for you and what is your advice for us novices? Help! And, any final advice on positioning, etc that worked for you?

O as in orgasm?

Hmm I always tended to do it right after insemination. I don't think its the orgasm that determines the sex as much as the actual timing of insemination.

Sperm lives up to 5 days in the body. Orgasm facilitates their journey through the cervix but the sperm still got the uterus and tubes to go through.

Based on the theory of girl sperm being hardier yet slower swimmers I think its more important to inseminate a day or two before ovulation to give the girl sperm a better chance of surviving.

But as I've said before considering that my timing has been crap and we're on cycle #8 don't go listening to us.

oh and on positioning:

Fresh stuff has more volume than the frozen stuff so you definatley want to make sure hips are elevated to prevent leakage. A couple of stiff pilows and make sure legs are against the wall so you don't get tired.

DP leaves the syringe inside me after each insemination to kinda act as a "plug" since I move around onto my stomach and my sides to allow the semen to "coat my cervix"

I've got no advice, but wanted to let you know that I've got fingers (eyes, legs, etc.) crossed that this signing goes through with no further complications!!

I am glad you ladies posted this question it was my same concern :). I guess that solves it leave the syringe in and O after insemination. I have already warned my partner we better get an "adult" movie as I am sure there will be a lot of giggling and unromantic things going on after inseminating :) so we will make this interesting I guess. Best of luck to you ladies in your signing your contract. We will be having a similar conversation tonight and hopefully all will go as planned with inseminating tonight and Sunday. Wow what a big step. It is strange to think that if the moon and the stars are lined up for you guys and for us we could all be bringing a baby into this world in 9-10 months. Crazy to think we will be responsible for another little life. What a cool feeling all the same. :) Best of luck please keep us posted.

Well, I've already mentioned this, but we had Kristin O before and then squirted while she was still contracting. We left the syringe in for approx 10 min afterwards. Never used a speculum, I just pushed it in as I could. We used standard old missionary position the month it worked an Kristin kept her feet up on the wall for approx 20 minutes to an hour afterward.

Sophia's right with the timing of the insemination -- if you want a girl, inseminate before she ovulates. Though keep in mind that ANY tricks to try to control the sex of the fetus will cut your chances on conception since you're trying to eliminate approx half of the sperm. That being said, using fresh actually gives you a better chance of a girl than a boy. Each month we inseminated three times -- 3 days before ovulation, the day before ovulation, and the day of ovulation. And, though it took us 6 cycles, we did end up with a girl. Next time we're trying for a boy.

Sophia's also right about remembering the towel!
