Good Baby Gear

A little baby gear post...got any other good gear suggestions? Share!!!

Breast Feeding Pillow

One of my biggest challenges has been nursing in public. It's just awkward and because my boobs are so big I'm really uncomfortable. We bought a Hooter Hider, but it's still hard to see Finn and I tend to put him ON it more than under it.

We were out yesterday looking for a replacement mobile because I broke Finn's in the middle of the night and I found the most awesome travel breast feeding pillow EVER. It's a Bosom Baby "A little Something Extra" pillow. I'm taking it everywhere with me from now on. It also lets me breast feed at the computer since it's not HUGE.

The Swaddleme

Okay, I thought the Swaddleme was stupid. We put one on our registry and someone bought it for us, but I resisted using it because I've heard that it's useless. I WAS WRONG.

Finn doesn't like to have his arms in when he's swaddled and he doesn't like being swaddled tightly. The Swaddleme is perfect. We keep his arms bent inside it so he can escape during the night and he loves it. The other thing about the Swaddleme is that it's a knit fabric and less fabric than doing a swaddle blanket, so Finn doesn't get too hot while sleeping with us.

Phil and Ted's Smart Buggy

M. and I have been planning to buy a lightweight umbrella travel stroller for when Finn gets older. Yesterday I found the one I want. The Phil and Ted's Smart Buggy is super light and small profile. It drives beatifully and will fit up to four y/o. And it's totally cool looking.

I can totally understand you beng shy about the public breast feeding thing and am glad you got something suitable to help you out. But I've decided to get my tits out anywhere and everywhere as an advertisement for the fact that big boobed girls can breastfeed succesfully! Soooooo many people told me I would have trouble feeding and probably wouldn't be able to do it and I'm glad I ignored their ignorant arses because feeding has been a dream for us most of the time. So if anyone sees a woman with gigantic knockers feeding a tiny baby in public - it's me! Glad your feeding is working too Sacha. Go boobs go!

oh, by uncomfortable I mean physically uncomfortable. I have to hold myself up in all kinds of ways so having a pillow is a WORLD of help. I need both hands which means I can't just drape a blanket over my shoulder while he nurses if need be. I'd seriously need a third hand for that.

Nursing has been GREAT for me as well and I was really, really worried about my giant jugs and lack of decent nipples. But only minor, brief issues that quickly resolved.

I used my diaper bag to prop up my daughter when I fed her. That way I didn't have to lug around a Boopy pillow with me. I just laid a blanket down over it and placed lil girl on top, threw a blanket over my shoulder, lugged my big ol boob out, positioned baby, and after she latched on, sighed a deep breathe and thought to myself 'Only 22 (21, 20, 19, ect.) more months to go!'

Just wanted to drop by and say that although I discovered this blog by accident, I think it's fantastic!

Thankyou so much for your honesty and bravery in starting a family together, and then blogging about it. The encouragement and support that it provides others with is overwhelmingly evident.

I think you already have good baby gear- two loving mum's that adore their son.

I wish you much happiness and joy.
Love Turtle

I can relate with the big boobs and trying to b/f in public!
Just keep practicing at home!
Many times I would lift the shirt just high enough so babe can latch on, and then once he was latched on, I'd get covered with a blanket!
Don't worry what others are thinking and do what you have to do!

As for needing a 3rd arm.....lol well you can use a diaper bag, or even get M to assist ;)

If you can, start practicing that baby is in one arm (cradle possition) and this way with the other arm, you can help him latch to the breast and then when he is, you can cover with the blanket!
Its hard at first, but we do get use to it!

Your doing great, keep up the great job and don't worry about who's looking and what you look like!

Take care

p.s....Sometimes at first, I'd also seek out a "change room" in a store and now most have a nursing room!

Hi Sacha!

Congrats from a long time lurker! Your boy is sooo darling!

You have mentioned a couple of times about your "lack of decent nipples". Could you elaborate on that? I am 7 months preggo right now with the same issue, and am looking for any information on bf-ing with nipples that are less than porn star.

Have fun with Finn!
