Carseat Craziness

We've been mulling the carseat lately. The plan is to put the carseat in sometime in Feb. That way we're ready to go if The Unnamed One arrives early. Also, my mum is behaving herself and has offered to pay for our infant carseat. Very cool.

It's funny because we have what might be the most unsafe car on the market. We knew that when we bought it, but it was what we could afford and it had four doors. This means we need a VERY safe carseat. Little boy will be a lot safer than his mommies at this point.

It's been an amazingly difficult decision. The Graco Snugride gets good ratings. Then we looked at the Graco Safeseat because it can hold up to 30 lobs. Then we switched to the Britax Companion after a friend had a friend killed after being t-boned by a Suburban and her 2.5 month old daughter has severe brain damage. All of the sudden it became important to have THE safest seat on the market, so Britax it was.

Then it's the convertibles. Britax again, but it may not actually fit in our crap-ass car. We've gone from car seat to needing a new car by the time The Unnamed One is six months old.

Yikes.

Yet another one of the bajillion decisions that have to be made. It took some time but I think we've made a really good decision.

Sleep tight, blogosphere. Time to spend time with my wife.

we have car/carseat issues. We bought the companion as it is the safest on the market and our cars are older and not the safest on the road. We can't say enough good things about it. Long string-bean girl is starting to push the limits of that - but baby buckets are rated safer than the convertibles. And it's the first few months before they can sit/hold their head that count for a lot.

We are now searching to replace with a convertible. Likely we will get the roundabout for one car and just leave the baby bucket in the car for the other for as long as she fits. The roundabout fits rear-facing in most cars since it isn't as high as the others. While it lacks the SIP of the boulevard it can fit in the center, rather than the outboard, of the older car.

I realize every car is different - but we decided that $300 carseat + $300 carseat + $300 carseat is still cheaper than one new car.

The Roundabout disappeared from our Babies R Us and it seems kind of hard to find at this point. We're going with the Decathlon, hence the car issue. Luckily we were planning on a new car but it may be sooner now than later. That's okay because it will fit the damn Zooper.

And the nice thing...seems the Companion has come down in price!

they may be hard to find because it's time for the new ones. Our targ*t has them and babystyle online... :-)

the zooper doesn't fit in either of our cars - it's a beast!!! lol

Actually, my dear, it was Boulevard we were looking at that dissapeared, not the Roundabout. We didn't choose the Roundabout because it only goes to 40lbs. Classic case of car seat confusion. : )

We're also going Britax, all the way. REALLY a good investment as we plan to keep our little one rear facing to the max weight limit (33 lbs in Britax seats). Plus they can be in the 5-point-harness seat until *65 lbs*. I'm not crazy about most things, but when it comes to car seat safety I am. In Europe most kids stay rear facing until 30-40 lbs.

Oh and btw you guys the Boulevard is now back in stock in most places - there was a recall (*very* minimal and not an actual safety threat, google it if interested) but they are back out now. We're doing the boulevard too.
